How invoices are calculated

Written by Aaron

In most cases, invoices are simple. When you start a paid plan, you're billed right away for your first period, then billed automatically at the start of each renewal period while your subscription is active.

  • Pro is billed monthly or yearly.

  • Lifetime is a single payment and doesn't renew.

  • Teams is billed yearly, per seat, with a 2-seat minimum.

  • Enterprise agreements and live programs are billed according to your order form.

You can see your plan, billing schedule and invoice history on the Subscription page. See Find and download your invoice for step-by-step instructions.

Billing gets a bit more complicated when you change a plan partway through a period, like switching from monthly to yearly or adding seats to a team. Here's how that works.

Upgrading a plan

When you move to a more expensive plan, you're charged right away for the new plan, minus a credit for the unused time on your current plan. This is called proration.

For example, say you're on a monthly Pro plan ($49) and switch to yearly ($399) exactly halfway through the month. The yearly plan starts that day, and you pay $374.50: the $399 yearly price, minus $24.50 for the unused half of your month.

Adding team seats

New seats are charged for the time left in your team's current term.

For example, say your team has 5 seats on a yearly plan ($468 per seat per year, or $2,340). Halfway through the year, you add 2 seats. You're charged $468 right away (2 seats × $468 × half a year), and the new seats renew with the rest of your team.

Removing team seats

When a Teams owner removes seats, the unused amount for those seats isn't refunded to your card. It's kept as a credit on your account, and your next renewal uses that credit before charging your payment method.

Downgrading a Pro plan

Pro payments already made for your current billing period aren't refunded or credited when you move to a less expensive plan.

❗️NOTE: You won't receive a refund when you downgrade or cancel. See our refund policy.

Invoice-billed plans

If you have an Enterprise agreement or a live program, your invoices follow your order form. Unless your order form says otherwise, invoices are due within 30 days of the invoice date. See Payment methods and invoicing.
