Course and Project Progress Reset

Why progress can't be reset and how to use Bookmarks when revisiting completed content

Written by Branislav

Progress cannot be reset on courses or guided projects.

Why progress works this way

Progress is recorded only the first time you complete a lesson or project task.

Coming back to content you've already finished doesn't change the progress bar or uncheck any lessons.

This applies to courses (which show a percentage-based progress bar and a checkmark next to each completed lesson) and to guided projects (which have a checklist of completable tasks).

The behavior is intentional, and there are a few reasons for it:

  • Progress bars cap at 100%. Resetting visually would allow the percentage to count past that.

  • Course progress feeds into learning path progress. If course-level numbers aren't accurate, learning path percentages break too, including on customized paths.

  • Team reporting depends on it. On business plans, team leaders track engagement metrics. The system counts only new content as progress so those numbers don't get artificially inflated.

  • Streaks only count new lessons. The streak tracker in your student dashboard counts new lessons completed each day. Revisiting a lesson you've already finished doesn't count toward it.

Using Bookmarks to track where you are when revisiting a course

If you go through a course again, the progress bar stays at 100% and all lessons stay checkmarked. That's expected.

You can use Bookmarks to create personal navigation points as you work through it again.

Bookmarks are available in two places inside the course player:

  • The My Bookmarks tab in the top-left panel, next to All Lessons (this is where your saved bookmarks will show up)

  • The bookmark icon in the right-hand icon panel on the far right of the screen (this is where you add bookmarks)

When you create a bookmark, the platform automatically captures the course, chapter, lesson, and timestamp. The lesson title is pre-filled as the bookmark name. Before saving, you can edit the title or add a personal note. Select Save Bookmark to confirm.

Note: Bookmarks are available on all plans, including Maven Starter.
