Retaking Courses After Changing Your Learning Plan

How completed course progress is handled when you modify or switch learning plans

Written by Branislav

You don't need to retake courses after changing your learning plan. Completed courses stay completed. Whenever you modify your learning plan; adding courses, removing them, or switching plans; your individual course completions carry over automatically. You won't lose credit for anything you've already finished.

Notes:

  • You can only have one active learning plan at a time.

  • Progress cannot be reset for individual courses or pre-built learning paths.

How is plan progress calculated

Your overall plan progress percentage reflects the courses currently in your plan. When the course list changes, that percentage recalculates. Your individual course completions are never affected.

In practice:

  • Adding an unfinished course lowers your overall percentage, because the plan now includes a course you haven't completed.

  • Removing a course may raise your overall percentage, because there are fewer uncompleted courses counted in the plan.

  • Adding a course you've already completed counts immediately toward your plan progress -- no need to rewatch it.

Example: You have a 3 course learning plan, that you completed: Gen AI Essentials, Prompt Engineering Masterclass, Critical Thinking in the Age of AI. You swap Critical Thinking in the Age of AI for Data & AI Ethics. Your plan progress updates from 100% to 66% -- not because anything was lost, but because Data & AI Ethics isn't done yet. Gen AI Essentials and Prompt Engineering Masterclass remain completed.

Important: Rewatching lessons doesn't reset or re-trigger completion. A finished course stays finished no matter how many times you go back to it.

Modifying your learning plan

To reach your learning plan, click Learning Plan in the left sidebar.

The Total progress percentage on the right reflects your overall plan completion. The progress bar on each individual course row tracks that course separately. Changes to your plan update the total - never the individual bars.

To add a course, click Add content at the top of the Plan Curriculum section and select from the available options. If you add a course you've already completed, Maven counts the completion immediately and factors it into your updated total progress.

To remove a course, click the delete icon to the right of the course row. Your overall progress percentage will recalculate, but any completed courses in the plan are unaffected.

To adjust a deadline, click the Deadline dropdown on any course row and select a new date.
